Another excellent post stephcarson.
Greg, I have another alternative however I cannot post it openly. It is legal ... but need to discuss. Email me at redriversaga@yahoo.com for details. Let's hope they get this thing settled soon so all this will be rendered academic.

stephcarson, your post is right on. The times that I have carried liquor bottles, not always even empty out of the Red to the trash are many. Have found empty bottles hanging in trees at amazingly beautiful campsites, just don't understand. Was on Turtleback Arch Trail about six months ago and their was a huge pile of human feces and toilet paper at the first campsite in full view on anyone on the way to the arch. What are these people thinking? I love backcountry camping as much as anyone else, leave no trace is essential. Your comments are appreciated.

Our group does an annual cleanup in the major area we stay as well. Year before, we removed 6 trash bags of garbage from a site on Indian Creek. This past September we removed only 2, I'd like to think that the increased USFS trash pickups have really helped. In backcountry, we often run into situations like karenoel describes above, whether it be a short or long hike. We always do the right thing and leave a place cleaner than when we found it. Is this not the only real power that we as normal visitors have, short of reporting violating individuals we might actually see?
Also, have unconfirmed information from another site that the ticket for violating the conditions of the Government Shutdown RRG Closure is $125.00 per individual. Being caught there between 10pm to 6am either parking or camping.

Any insight on what all is involved and how long it will take to get the gorge reopened?

Following the news carefully today. Bill to end the Shutdown could be signed as early as tonight. However just how quickly they would restore workforce to the RRG, open the gates and remove the Curfew Order is unknown at this time. Standby.

GS,
I also noticed that things are moving in D.C. - that's awesome! Would it be all at all possible to share with me your alternative plan, just in case when we arrive tomorrow afternoon, things haven't resolved themselves yet? Like I said, there should be an email in your inbox from me so you don't have to post publicly. Thanks.

Once registered into this forum and once you have posted to a thread you should receive email updates. If not, you should go into your forum account and enable the email updates because they will be turned off obviously.
Getting close Greg, hang in there.

Washington, DC Wednesday, October 16, 2013 The Senate is scheduled to vote on the debt ceiling agreement reached between Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). The vote will likely be at 6pm ET. If the agreement passes, it goes to the House for a vote, possibly later tonight. Speaker Boehner issued a statement saying that the House GOP will not vote to stop the agreement. " . . . blocking the bipartisan agreement reached today by the members of the Senate will not be a tactic for us," he wrote. The agreement would raise the debt limit until February 2014, fund the government through January 2014 and establish a joint House-Senate committee to make spending cut decisions. Speaking to reporters, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said today that he will not block a Senate vote on a measure aimed at reopening the federal government and avoiding default. The federal government has been shut down since October 1 and funding for all government operations expired September 13. The Obama Administration has said that Thursday is when the Treasury Department will run out of its borrowing authority to fully pay the nation's bills if the debt ceiling is not increased. www.c-span.org/Events/Congress-Expected-to-Vote-on-Senate-Debt-Ceiling-Agreement-Tonight/10737442041-2/

House in Session, Taking Up Debt Ceiling Agreement The House is now back in session. The representatives are now debating the debt ceiling agreement. By a vote of 81 - 18, the Senate passed the debt ceiling agreement reached between Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). Speaker Boehner issued a statement saying that the House GOP will not vote to stop the agreement. " . . . blocking the bipartisan agreement reached today by the members of the Senate will not be a tactic for us," he wrote. Following the Senate vote, President Obama came to the White House Brady Briefing Room and thanked the leaders of both parties in the Senate for passing the agreement.
