NKY woman recovering after falling off cliff at Red River Gorge
UPDATED 6:36 PM EDT Sep 30, 2015
The trip was supposed to be part of a birthday celebration for Northern Kentucky resident Tiffani Featherstone.
On Saturday 10 friends where out having fun, but the good time turned serious when the sun went down and they tried to find their way back to the cars with nothing but the light of their cellphones.
According to rescuers, Featherstone fell from between 30 to 50 feet. At the bottom half her body was in the Red River, slipping in and out of consciousness and suffering from hypothermia.
“I remember they took everybody, gave up their sweat shirts and they tied them around my waist, shoulders, and legs. Then they put me on a stretcher,” Featherstone said. "I just told them (rescuers) my back was hurting really, really bad. I just told them that I wanted to go home, I wanted to see my kids. Thought I was gonna die. I just told them not to let me die down there.”
Featherstone is still hospitalized and was able to talk to WLWT from her hospital bed via Facetime. She has a broken forearm, elbow, shoulder, pelvis, cracked hip, and four breaks in her back.
With the help of doctors and her 3-year-old son, she is on the road to recovery.
“I always look at him, and tell him it's going to be OK. And to have him tell me it’s going to be OK, I just know that, as long as I just fight to get better and just everything that I'm supposed to do. Well then I know that I'll be OK.” Featherstone said.
And when asked what she would like to say to the rescuers, Featherstone said, “Thank you! If it wasn’t for them, I don’t think I would be here.”
We spoke with Featherstone’s friends and coworkers at the Covington Vape Shop.
They wish her a speedy recovery and even started a Go Fund Me sight to help pay for her bills.

Three Fall Off Cliff At Red River Gorge
A group of hikers from Kentucky found themselves severely injured and in dire need of help Saturday night after falling from a cliff. The victims are two females and one male in their mid-twenties, who were with several other hikers in the Red River Gorge.
It took about 50 people to rescue three severely injured hikers in complete darkness Saturday night. The call came in after midnight that several people had fallen from a cliff known as Moonshiner's Arch.
"Five uninjured people led us to three fallen victims that appeared to have fallen anywhere from 30 to 50 feet depending on which ledge they were on," said Michael Hackett from Wolfe County Search and Rescue.
When they fell, rescuers say the victims landed on a hillside and eventually came to a stop partially in the waters of the Red River.
"By the time we got to them, they were all hypothermic and severely injured and in pain. The third person was the most injured who appeared to have some kind of concussion or head injury and lost consciousness twice while we were there," said Hackett.
The other two hikers suffered several broken bones in the fall. Working as a team, the volunteers got each of them out quickly and safely.
"We were able to get our priority one patient out within 45 minutes of the first call, and then 15 minute intervals from there for the other patients," said Hackett.
Rescuers say the group had been drinking, and we're using only the flashlights on their cell phones during their hike. Volunteers with Powell County and Menifee County Search and Rescue teams also contributed in the operation.

3 hikers severely injured in fall in Red River Gorge

Three hikers were rescued early Sunday after falling nearly 50 feet in the Red River Gorge in Menifee County.
The hikers sustained severe injuries, including head injuries and possibly broken bones, and were taken to area hospitals, said John May, assistant chief of the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team. May said the identities of the hikers were not released.
A group of about 10 people was hiking late Saturday when three members of the party fell off a rocky outcrop in the Douglas Trail area. May said that rain had made the outcrop very slick and that alcohol was involved.
It took 35 volunteer search and rescue team members from Wolfe, Powell and Menifee counties four hours to locate and rescue the hikers because members of the party were not clear where they were in the gorge, May said. Two of the hikers were partially in the Red River when rescuers arrived, he said.
It was a busy weekend for search and rescue teams in the Red River Gorge. On Friday night, Wolfe County Search and Rescue saved a dog that had been stranded on a cliff for several days. May said the owner of the dog was found and reunited with his pet.

WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Multiple rescue crews were called out after a group of hikers fell off a cliff in the Red River Gorge.
The Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team along with Powell County Search and Rescue and Menifee County Search and Rescue were all called out to the area near Moonshiner's Arch near Douglas Trail and Osborne Bend Trial for a report of three hikers who were lost and had fallen off a cliff.
Rescuers say the trip had fallen over 50 feet and were lying near and in the Red River. The fall resulted in multiple traumatic injuries for all three hikers.
All three were rescued and transported to local hospitals by ambulance.
Their conditions have not been released.
Between 30 and 50 people aided in the search and rescue.
"It was pretty extreme and we'd like to thank everybody for their effort,” said Michael Hackett, Wolfe County Search and Rescue.
Hackett says alcohol may have played a role in the fall.
