Several runners treated for injuries after Red River Gorge Half-Marathon Posted: Sun 8:22 PM, Sep 07, 2014 POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT/WKYT) - Dozens of people were rescued Saturday during the Red River Gorge Half-Marathon. Search and rescue teams from Wolfe and Powell counties, along with several other agencies, were there to help 400 runners along the Gorge's terrain in the intense heat and thunderstorms. According the the Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team's Facebook page, several people were rescued after experiencing severe muscle strains, sprains, thermal emergencies, and an allergic reactions. At the finish line treatment tent, roughly 30 patients were seen for various minor injuries. Personnel also responded to an accident just down the road from the Suspension Bridge staging area during the race. About 30 runners were on a bus that went off the road. Rescue workers from several counties had to carry out several people who couldn't make it through the Rugged Red Trail Half-Marathon. People were rescued after suffering sprains, heat exhaustion and allergic reactions. Another 30 were treated at the finish line. A bus carrying about 30 runners also went off a road near a bridge staging area. No one was hurt in that incident.
